When you use AI Eddie to run an advisory session or invoke the Editor-in-Chief, your draft text is sent directly from your Mac to the AI provider you have configured — using your own API key. AI Eddie does not route, store, or have access to your writing at any point.
Each AI provider receives your content under their own privacy policy and terms of service. We encourage you to review the policies of the providers you use:
If you use the Custom (local model) option described below, none of the above applies — your text never leaves your Mac.
AI Eddie supports a Custom provider option that connects to any OpenAI-compatible local model server running on your Mac — such as Ollama, LM Studio, or Jan.
When you use a local model, your draft text is processed entirely on your device. No data is transmitted to any AI provider, third party, or remote server. Nothing you write leaves your computer at all.
This option requires no API key. It is the strongest privacy configuration available in Eddie — appropriate for legal documents, medical writing, journalism, and any context where confidentiality is essential.
AI Eddie document files (.eddie) are stored on your Mac. We do not
back them up, sync them, or have access to them.
Your Advisor library is stored in iCloud Drive (if you have iCloud enabled on your Mac) and synced across your Macs via Apple's iCloud infrastructure. We do not have access to your Advisor files. If iCloud is not enabled, Advisors are stored locally on your Mac only.
If you create an account on the AI Eddie community and publish or browse
Advisors, the following data is stored on our server (eddie.media):
This data is never sold or shared with third parties. Advisor content you publish becomes visible to other Eddie users.
AI Eddie is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us at privacy@eddie.media and we will delete it promptly.
Community Exchange account data (email address, display name) is retained for as long as your account is active. Advisors you have published to the Community Exchange are stored on our server and remain visible to other users for as long as they are in a Published or Draft state.
If you request account deletion, your account and personal data are removed within 7 days. Your published Advisors are transferred to a system account and remain in the Exchange so that users who have already imported them are not affected. If you wish to have a specific Advisor removed from the Exchange before deleting your account, archive it first using the Builder Portal.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. To delete your Community Exchange account, email support@eddie.media with the subject "Delete my account." We will process your request within 7 days.
If you are located in the European Economic Area or California, you may have additional rights under the GDPR or CCPA respectively, including the right to data portability and the right to opt out of certain data uses. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@eddie.media.
